The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Management Board is seeking public comments regarding Draft Addendum XXVIII to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass.
Addendum XXVIII will address the recreational management of summer flounder for 2017. This draft addendum presents background on ASMFC management of summer flounder; the addendum process and timeline; and a statement of the problem.
The document, which was approved by the Board in early December, presents a suite of management approaches, including regional options, to achieve the 2017 recreational harvest limit (RHL). The document also provides options of management for public consideration and comment.
Atlantic coastal states from Massachusetts through North Carolina have scheduled public hearings to gather public comment. The Virginia hearing is scheduled to be held:
